On May 31, the city of Okayama will host a workshop titled “Writing Landscapes,” featuring Yusuke Noridai, a celebrated author and recipient of the Tubota Jōji Literary Award, as the instructor. The event will take place around Okayama Castle in the Kita Ward of Marunouchi. This workshop marks the first in a three-part series that will continue into next year, focusing on teaching participants how to express landscapes through writing.
The workshop is part of a city initiative to support authors during their stay in Okayama for creative activities. Participants will explore the area, sketching scenes in words, while Noridai provides guidance on descriptive techniques. The written pieces will then be shared and reviewed among all attendees.
The first session will run from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The second session is scheduled for September 20, and the third will take place on a Saturday between February and March next year, both from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Participation is free, but the number of attendees is capped at approximately 30. Interested individuals must apply through the city’s website by 1:00 PM on May 28. If applications exceed the limit, participants will be selected based on their stated motivations. Attendance at all three sessions is strongly encouraged, as partial participation is not permitted. The venues for the second and third sessions will be disclosed only to confirmed participants.
Yusuke Noridai debuted in 2015 after winning the Gunzō New Literary Award. He has since gained recognition as a prominent writer, earning accolades such as the Mishima Yukio Prize and the Tubota Jōji Literary Award for his work Practicing Travel.
